Recently my elderly mom lost her bottom teeth and although we have dentures they don’t really fit that well.  My elderly mom feels embarrassed when we have to feed her baby food but we are at a loss?  Can you help?

Thanks for asking for help for your mom as it is not easy to find tasty food and keep the dignity of eating whole food as we age.  With many elderly parents, dentures can be a problem especially when it comes to eating food.  I have a yummy corn bread recipe that I will share with you that is easy to chew or just swallow for your elderly mom!

Elderly and Young alike love Corn bread.  It is especially soft if you serve it with a topping, like blended chili, or maple syrup!

Corn Bread Recipe


Original recipe makes 12 servings

½ cup butter

½ cup white sugar

2 eggs

1 cup yellow cornmeal

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups milk



  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease an 8-inch square pan.
  2. Beat butter and sugar together in a bowl until creamy. Add eggs; beat until combined. Stir in cornmeal.
  3. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together in a separate bowl. Stir flour mixture, alternating with milk, into butter mixture until well combined. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center of the bread comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes.
